Read that label

As we are becoming more and more aware about the different ways we are being exposed to harmful toxins, we are slowly transitioning using of non-toxic, non-harmful products that we use on a daily basis. Though we have made a big leap when it comes to consuming toxin free (in the form of chemical pesticides or food like products) food, we are are still ignorant of the fact that the products that we use on our skin in the form of skin care products or cosmetics, also have toxins.

Our skin is our largest organ and acts as a passageway from the outside world into the bloodstream, so what we put on our skin can be absorbed by the body and enter our blood. Our skin can absorb up to 60% of what we slather onto it and the sensitive areas around our faces and armpits.

Knowing that our bodies absorb the personal care products we use, it’s important to give ingredients a second look. Common ingredients found in conventional soaps, lotions, and makeup can increase our chemical exposure.

Chemicals like phthalates are endocrine disruptors have been linked to reproductive issues like lowered sperm counts and thyroid problems. Other  chemicals in cosmetics are known to contain carcinogenic properties.

There are so many products in the market that are marketed  as “natural,” “clean,” or “organic.” Don’t be fooled by these claims  and marketing techniques, be sure to do your research and check those ingredients. Scan the labels for ingredients that are toxic. If you are not sure about the ingredient, look it up on the internet. Completely avoid buying products that have phthalates, parabens, and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). If you see any of these ingredients are listed, find a cleaner alternative.
